The Breform™ procedure can be carried out using three different techniques. These techniques will be discussed by the surgeon with the patient on consultation and depend on the following:
The patient’s skin quality;
The size of the breasts;
The amount of ptosis (droop); and
The patient’s desired shape and size
For maximum results patients are advised to adhere to the surgeon’s post operative recovery requirements.
The Breform™ Mastopexy This operation is indicated for droopy breasts of normal size and can be performed under general anesthesia. The resulting scar in most patients is limited to the nipple (peri-areola) but in patients with poor skin quality or excessive skin, may also be underneath the nipple and in the fold beneath the breast (infa-mammary crease).
The Breform™ Reduction The Breform™ breast reduction procedure was developed to assist the conventional reduction procedure as the breasts relied on the skin to maintain the shape and weight of the breast; as well as leaving the patient with dramatic scars. By introducing the Breform™ internal bra system, the surgeon is able to eliminate both these problems.
In both the Breform™ mastopexy and reduction procedures, the surgeon inserts the Breform™ device into the fatty layer of the breast and sutures it to the chest wall, as well as to strategic points in the breast muscle. The anchorage points correspond to the attachments of the ligamentous suspension of Wűringer and the non-absorbable Breform™ mesh will remain in the breast acting as a permanent Internal Bra System.
Using Breform™ in Breast Reconstruction after Mastectomy In instances where mastectomy patients have one healthy breast, the Breform™ device can be introduced into the healthy breast. The healthy breast in a mastectomy patient usually differs in size or shape from the reconstructed breast. This can be corrected by reducing the larger breast or lifting the ptotic (droopy) healthy breast. In this scenario the Breform™ can play a vital role in obtaining optimal results and is definitely recommended by the Breform™ surgeons.
It is important to remember that not all plastic surgeons are able to perform this procedure as they are either not familiar with the technique or do not prescribe to our philosophy. The Breform™ procedure is therefore currently only available through Breform™ accredited plastic surgeons throughout the world.
"There are no serious side affects in performing the operation and the Breform™ Internal Bra System is not palpable in the breast. The Breform™ device does not interfere with mammographic studies or lump removals and is safe to use."
